Graduate School Ranking – Which Schools Rank Best And Why?

Is It Old School?

Why do schools conduct graduate school ranking? What is the purpose, and which schools rank best? Why do they rank best? What does top business school ranking mean, and why is it important anyway?

Business schools are ranked on many factors including statistical information and expert assessment. Input and output measures provide information on the quality of education offered by professors in the faculty, the education process offered by the university, and the quality of students delivered as a result of this process.

Output measures provide information on the success of the institutions managing process. This means the evaluator can determine whether graduates are able to achieve the results they desire following graduates, whether that is to land a job, use their MBA to teach internationally, or land a high-paying job offer in a major public corporation.

Expert assessment provides information on programs that are accredited only, because these are the only programs deemed appropriate for assessment by the US Dept of Education and Council for Higher Education and Accreditation. Accrediting agencies ensure the institutions are providing high quality education for students and not subjecting students to meaningless activity. That means your dollars are well spent.

Typically high ranking means an institution is also providing adequate financial resources for students whether these come in the form of student loans or scholarships and grants, or some combination thereof. These types of aid are essential to almost all or 90% and more of students attending most top ranking business schools, because the tuition is so high.

It is important to note that not all schools are ranked, so you may find a quality school that was not included in a ranking analysis. If this is the case you can verify whether the school is accredited. This is the first step toward determining the schools legitimacy. You can also interview staff or faculty to assess the appropriateness of the teaching credibility and the culture of the environment you plan to learn in. They can provide you with excellent insight into the school’s ability to teach you what you need to learn to succeed in the real world following graduation.
